We met at the Washington Monument in May 1974, and we were married at the Washington National Cathedral the following year, a second marriage for both that has now lasted 47 years, and counting. We discovered early on that we both had a terminal case of wanderlust, and we began to travel. So farwe have visited 87 countries together. We haven’t been everywhere, but it’s on our list.
We lived the typical Washington, D.C., life, Ron working for the U.S. Government, and I for lawyers for many years. When one child (his) went off to college and the other (mine) to the U.S. Marine Corps, we expected to retire to Florida, but after observing the destruction there from Hurricane Ivan, we decided to head to Wilmington instead. We have been living happily in Leland for 17 years. Our cat, Bello, has been with us for the past 11 years.
We were fortunate to find St. Paul’s early on, and we became involved at a time when this church was struggling to survive. I served on the vestry and was honored to be senior warden under Transitional Rector Randy Green. We have been blessed to be able to serve as hospitality leaders, with Ron still leading the Gold Team and serving on a breakfast team as well, even though you will never find him in the kitchen at home. He formerly chaired the men’s group which disbanded a few years ago, but still serves on the board of directors of Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard. You might see him gathering up the Little Red Wagon on Sundays, while I serve as a lector and on the altar guild and flower guild, and we are both ushers at the 10:30 service. I am also the recording secretary of the Mary Veronica Chapter of DOK. We have visited both the southernmost Anglican Cathedral, and the northernmost church in the world, but St. Paul’s is our spiritual forever home.
