I came to Wilmington in 2011. As a third-generation Washingtonian, I lived in DC for 65 years with the exception of a few years as a Foreign Service wife with tours in Morocco, Libya, Somalia, and Jamaica.
A cradle high church Episcopalian, if indeed there is such a designation, one of my many positions was at Washington National Cathedral where I was married, as was my daughter. However, it was the prospect of learning yet another word processing system at my law firm that sent me into retirement in North Carolina.
The first church I encountered thanks to a listing in the Star News and a decidedly bad sense of direction was St. Paul’s and the first person I encountered was Father Randy Green, never one to let a potential new parishioner leave the fold. It was also provident that it was Lent and the church was using Rite One. My religious future was sealed.
Definitely unmusical myself, I love the music program at St. Paul’s and have tried to find other areas to say “thank you” for all the church has given me including serving on the vestry, altar guild, and being a Eucharistic minister. My job in the Surgical Pavilion at Novant Hospital offers a sort of mini-ministry as did my years as a Guardian ad Litem. Currently I volunteer at both Thalian Hall and Wilson Center trying to see as many shows as possible.
