Dear St. Paul’s family,
You are the light of the world. Let your light shine before others.
As a child, I learned to sing the song, This Little Light of Mine. No doubt, you probably learned it too. Even though we may remember it as a song from our childhood, it certainly carries a simple truth for each of us, no matter our age. Quite simply, we are called to be the light of Christ in the world! Let that sink in for a moment, while the song begins to circulate in your mind.
There are days when my light feels small and dim. Sometimes the darkness of the world can be frightening and weigh heavily on our hearts. As a child, I worried that Satan could blow my light completely out, but darkness cannot extinguish Christ’s light within us. Darkness is simply the absence of light.
Whether life has backed you into a dark tunnel, or you have dug a deep hole for yourself, Christ’s light shines within you. Christ’s light shines within you when you welcome friends and strangers into our midst. Christ’s light shines within you when you sing praise to God. Christ’s light shines within you when you get involved in ministry. Christ’s light shines within you when you offer prayers on behalf of others. Christ’s light shines within you when . . .
On those days when my light is just not strong enough, I am grateful for the bright stars of St. Paul’s that help light the way with love and kindness. Shine on superSTARS! You are the light of the world! Let it shine! Let it shine! Let it shine!
Shine through me, and be so in me that
every soul I come in contact with
may feel Your presence in my soul.
Let them look up and see no longer me, but only Jesus.
