As we move further into the fall season, one might notice that our lectionary readings and feasts begin moving into focus on the fullness of God’s Kingdom. In the Anglican Communion, many churches call this liturgical period before Advent, “Kingdomtide.” It begins September 29 with the Feast of St. Michael and All Angels followed by the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi on October 4. It continues with All Saints and on through Christ the King as our readings will turn more and more toward the fullness of who and what is included in the Kingdom of God, as well as what the Kingdom of God looks like.
This Sunday, we will mark the beginning of this liturgical season by celebrating “Angels and Animals.” Angels are the highest created order and animals are some of the lower created orders. Angels and animals are a part of God’s creation that reflect the infinite goodness and diversity of God. We will help celebrate this with Sunday morning’s celebration of St. Michael and All Angels and our Annual Blessing of the Animals service in the church at 5 p.m. Come and celebrate the fullness and infinite goodness of God’s Kingdom with us this Sunday.
