For the last several months, we have all been facing a devastating time brought on by something completely unexpected, the Coronavirus. It has affected all of us in one way or another. But, there are some out there that are suffering more than we are, with the inability to put food on their table. Because of this we give thanks to God for the generosity you displayed in your response to the food drive we held recently for Nourish NC.
St. Paul’s, besides collecting food for Nourish NC also provides food for many living with food insecurity in their lives through organizations like Nourish NC and Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard; both continue to rely heavily on donations.
SPEC has been supporting Nourish NC’s backpack buddies program since 2014. We have taken on up to 25 students at Snipe’s School, providing them food year-round. Many of you are aware that we have supported this endeavor through the BELK Charity Day Sale. Due to the Coronavirus, Nourish NC is providing food to families, instead. And now, with the Coronavirus, this fundraising effort has been cancelled indefinitely. We have enough to support the backpack buddy program for this coming year, but then it will be depleted. Because of the uncertainty, we do not know what the future holds. We do know that no matter what, NourishNC will be helping children and their families the best way they can, and SPEC will continue to try to support their endeavors. We are appealing to you to help by donating to Nourish NC through SPEC or directly to them.
Mother Hubbard’s Cupboard during this Coronavirus time, ‘is committed to continue to be a reliable resource for the food insecure in the Wilmington area’.
During this time there are many organizations you can support with your donations. We are asking that you prayerfully discern how best you may be able to support current needs in our community through St. Paul’s ongoing ministry initiatives. Most of us received a stimulus check from the US Government. Please consider the idea of donating it, or a portion of it, to one of these charities who are faithfully responding to the ongoing need of hunger among our neighbors who otherwise might not have their next meal.
If you would like to donate, please consider the following:
- Send a check to St. Paul’s – put Nourish NC in Memo
- Send a check to Nourish NC – put from St. Paul’s in the Memo
- Give through BILL PAY – your online banking (one-time or recurring gift)
Thank you all for your consideration,
Pat Baker, on behalf of Community Ministries
